RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Richmond woman has pleaded guilty to
defrauding a state-run program that helps children with
birth-related neurological injuries.
Iris Allen faces two to 12 years in prison when she is sentenced
May 14 in federal court. She pleaded guilty Monday to one count
each of health care fraud and aggravated identity theft.
Prosecutors dropped 27 other counts and the 44-year-old Allen
agreed to repay the nearly $800,000 she admitted taking from the
Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Fund.
Allen was a benefits manager for the fund for more than four
years. Prosecutors said she submitted false invoices for payments
to companies she created.
