RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia State Corporation Commission has approved new rates for customers of Northern Neck Electric Cooperative.

The regulatory commission approved the cooperative's base rate for the first time since 1992. The adjustment provides an additional $2 million in annual revenue, an increase of about 6 percent.

Additional revenue will be collected through a $16 monthly access charge on residential, small commercial and church service customers. That's up from $8.50.

The cooperative serves nearly 18,000 members in Stafford, King George, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, and Lancaster counties.

The changes are effective for services as of January 1, 2009.
